Skate cross-chain intents on EigenLayer: OP Stack hub and pull-based AVS

Quote676 words

Explains Skate's architecture: an OP Stack optimistic rollup hub with a centralized sequencer at first, a BFT validator network on EigenLayer and a pull-based fast finality AVS that generates calldata for destination chains. A task already executed from its testnet onto Solana testnet.

Key claims
Skate hub is an OP Stack rollup on the Nollie testnet with a centralized sequencer initially
BFT consensus is secure while 2/3 of nodes are honest
Executed a taskID onto Solana testnet via the pre-confirmation AVS
✨♾ Cross-chain Intents built on EigenLayer ♾✨ We're moving towards a rollup-centric future, composed an entire ecosystem of vertical- or app-specific execution layers. This is accelerated by modularity, which enables the rise of 1000s of modular blockchains that are customized at every level of the tech stack. However, while that allows for unprecedented scale and more performant network designs, modularity comes with an inherent fragmentation of liquidity and users across ecosystems. ⚠️ That's a big problem for UX. To address this fragmentation, we need unified and chain-agnostic execution that allows universal applications to be deployed on any chain, irrespective of the consensus or VM it runs and the programming languages it supports. Sounds too good to be true? Well, @skate_chain makes this a reality. Universal state, powered by cross-chain intents and @eigencloud. ♾✨ Let's have a look at how this works. 👇 @skate_chain is a novel piece of infrastructure that fits into the modular stack seamlessly. Overarching and unifying execution layers, it sits above execution, and couples it with cross-chain intent validation through a proprietary, @eigencloud-based consensus mechanism. @skate_chain itself is implemented as an optimistic rollup based on the OP Stack and is currently on Nollie testnet. At first, a centralized sequencer will order transactions before finalizing them on the Ethereum mainnet. However, @skate_chain aims to enhance decentralization by moving towards a network of sequencer nodes or incorporating a scalable decentralized sequencer like @EspressoSys. The Skate Validator Network consists of independent, lightweight validator nodes whose underlying BFT* (Byzantine Fault Tolerance) Consensus is based on @eigencloud. Byzantine Fault Tolerance is a property of computer systems that enables consensus to resist certain types of failures, even in the presence of malicious parties. This means that with BFT we can reach consensus even if some of the nodes go down, or act maliciously. As long as 2/3 of nodes act honestly, the network is secure. To become a validator on @eigencloud, individuals that participate need to lock up a specific amount of tokens as stake. If any malicious behavior is detected, these tokens will be slashed to maintain the network's integrity. @skate_chain’s AVS serves the primary purpose of a chain-agnostic Fast Finality Layer (FNN). It facilitates access to the state of the Skate hub's chain through a pull-based request system. This is because transactions are executed by users signing “intents” (meaning orders) between networks, which requires that those facilitating these intents (“executors”) can see the state of each network. Let's have a look an example. 👇 Imagine you want to make a transfer of $1,000 from Ethereum to @Solana. If such a request is made, an executor needs to confirm that these assets exists on Ethereum (the source chain) and were successfully transferred to Solana (the destination chain). Therefore, @skate_chain pulls states from various sources, leveraging a crypto-economically secured, decentralized network of nodes on @eigencloud to ensure fast finality. To make this work, validators run specialized software and indexers to gather and prepare the required data. When a request is made, the AVS validators create executable calldata that encodes the necessary function calls and parameters to be executed against the settlement chain's state. This process enables the settlement chain to mirror the current state of the hub chain. The primary responsibility of the AVS is to create a set of instructions known as "calldata" for a given task. This calldata consists of specific function calls and parameters that must be executed on another blockchain. Pretty cool, right? It's not all though. 👇 @skate_chain is not just your average bridge and the functionality goes far beyond just asset transfers. Skate enables universal (EVM) applications that work on any chain. Recently, Skate expanded to @Solana, successfully executing a taskID from Skate Nollie testnet onto Solana's testnet via the @eigencloud Pre-confirmation AVS. This means EVM apps are not only running on @Solana but are also synced with a universal state that unifies 1000s of chains, paving the way for expansive and secure interoperability. Don't build siloed apps. Build apps with a universal state across chains. Powered by @skate_chain x @eigencloud 🛹 🫡
