Non-ETH collateral lowers AVS security costs
The era of "trust me bro" crypto apps is finally coming to an end. Nuff Protocol by @nufflelabs leads Web3 into a new paradigm built on unbreakable promises & powered by the first multichain restaking marketplace. This is a banger and it has major implications. ↓ @eigencloud with >$13B in crypto-economic security on Ethereum was just the beginning. Nuff takes the narrative to an entirely new level, where any token from any blockchain can be restaked, unlocking billions of $$$ in crypto-economic security capital in the process. This will ignite growth in the AVS ecosystem and drive a Cambrian explosion of innovation and use cases that are previously impossible economically. We're entering a generational bullrun & it's time to DYOR anon. ➊ 𝗦𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 Referred to as the most significant launch since Ethereum itself, EigenLayer has pioneered the "verifiable cloud" narrative. Let me give you a TL;DR on what that even is and why it matters. At the core of the EigenLayer vision stands Ethereum as the decentralized backbone of an open, permissionless and verifiable internet, which aims to replace the closed & trusted systems of Web2. However, smart contract development on Ethereum is cumbersome. General-purpose blockchains introduce base layer dependencies, and oftentimes also performance constraints on applications. Furthermore, there is a lack of infrastructure & tooling, and especially the EVM (but also other VMs) imposes strict constraints on what is possible, limiting expressivity. To break the performance constraints that most monolithic general-purpose blockchains suffer under and overcome the limited expressivity or language support of specific execution layers / VMs, the only path that remains, often is building app-specific systems. But while undeniably interesting from a value capture perspective as well (no rent has to be paid to base layer), building an app-specific blockchain from scratch is not easy. Especially bootstrapping and maintaining a decentralized validator set with sufficient crypto-economic security, is a complex and often costly endeavour. L2 architectures provide an alternative that (at least partially) abstracts this issue. However, in the absence of readily available infra services, builders have to build everything from scratch, which is often prohibitively complex/expensive. That's where @eigencloud comes in. EigenLayer is a shared security system for open innovation that extends Ethereum’s trust to decentralized networks (a.k.a. Actively Validated Services) that can run arbitrary operator logic, and that predominantly provide infrastructure services to rollups and apps. Think data availability solution, efficient ZK proof generation or verification services, oracles, sequencers, fast finality layers, policy engines, co-processors, etc. EigenLayer's shared security system is fueled by billions of dollars in crypto-economic capital in the form of restaked ETH that ensures that the operators of the AVS protocols can be slashed if they act maliciously. Other "verifiable cloud" systems like @symbioticfi, @Karak_Network, @solayer_labs or @babylonlabs_io work similarly, but introduce new assets to the restaking economy and expand the narrative to ecosystems beyond Ethereum. While it is a great advancement for Web3 that these systems are maturing, the landscape we see emerging comes with a problem. Fragmented restaking = inefficient security allocation + high cost of capital. Nuff fixes this. ➋ 𝗪𝗧𝗙 𝗶𝘀 𝗡𝘂𝗳𝗳? With Nuff protocol, @nufflelabs is the first unified cloud for crypto-economic security to market and is about to change the restaking game forever. Nuff powers a multichain restaking marketplace that lets users (re)stake, reward, and consume (security) on EigenLayer from anywhere. As a coordination & orchestration layer for restaked assets and AVS security allocation, Nuff allows builders (infra service providers) to leverage crypto-economic security from any asset on any blockchain, thereby significantly increasing the pool of capital that is available to secure AVSs on EigenLayer. This also reduces the cost of security for AVS protocols significantly. For restakers, Nuff provides a unified restaking platform that allows anyone to become their own AVS "Blackrock", building bundles (a.k.a. customized strategies) with adjustable strategies that enable users to farm AVS rewards based on their very own requirements for risk, yield, etc. The protocol provides a streamlined interface for delegators (restakers), service providers & operators. Let's have a look at what that means: ➤ Delegators: Delegate any native asset on one unified platform in exchange for a LRT. Nuff gives them control over where they allocate their assets by selecting specific AVS bundles based on tailored risk/reward profiles, empowering them to make more informed, personalized staking decisions. ➤ Service Providers: Benefit from greater flexibility by choosing which assets secure their services and only paying for the exact level of security required, optimizing resource allocation and cost. Integrating applications/services can freely determine security parameters, the involved tokens, logic, and rewards. ➤ Operators: Earn additional income by validating/running the decentralized networks that provide the above-mentioned infrastructure services through operator rewards. Operators can also delegate their own assets to the protocol's vaults, reaping in additional rewards. ➌ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸? Nuff protocol allows users to deposit/stake any L1 or L2 asset directly on its home chain in a dedicated LRT vault, and in return receive a LRT representation of their stake Leveraging the Nuffle Fast Finality (NFFL) AVS and NEAR DA, Nuff subsequently coordinates the delegation strategies on EigenLayer As hinted at above, Nuff also allows users to create LRT bundles specific to their ecosystem. An Arbitrum user for example could create a bundle that includes only Arbitrum-specific services (such as oracles or ZK co-processors) that support the ecosystem. Delegations from the vault will only be made to operators that secure these AVSs. Nuff will also reduce the cost of capital and remove some pressure from AVS builders that have to pay for security through their own token emissions. Being able to leverage other assets than ETH (which is expensive), and put together a cost efficient asset bundle to secure the network, will drive the ability of developers to build more economically sustainable AVSs. Nuff's design introduces a number of unique benefits: ➤ Reduced Bridging Risks: Assets remain on their native chains, avoiding the liquidity bridging approach commonly used by most bridges. ➤ Lower Gas Fees: Similar to the cost savings achieved through Ethereum L2s or other L1s, users benefit from reduced gas fees thanks to the use of NFFL to stake from where it's cheapest to do so. ➤ TVL Remains Local: Rather than bridging and moving assets to L1, which can lead to a loss of TVL, L1 and L2 ecosystems can retain TVL within their native blockchain, thereby keeping DeFi activity localized as well. ➤ Enhanced Utility for L2/L1 Tokens: Provides additional utility for L2 tokens that lack staking or restaking options, as well as L1 tokens that have limited DeFi options. ➍ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻? Nuff is a game-changer anon. It solves the fragmentation in the shared security market and improves the efficiency of the crypto-economic capital that secures the decentralized networks that build the backbone of Web3. To enable scalable, mass-adoption ready apps and onboard the next million devs, Web3 needs to provide builders with plug-and-play infra and tooling, allowing for a similar complexity abstraction that is already the standard in Web2. This means decoupling major network components and allowing specialized players to arise in these functional areas, focused on specific network functions, and able to provide these infrastructure services at scale to 1000s of verifiable web apps built on decentralized and secure infrastructure. Nuff strengthens EigenLayer on its mission to drive open innovation and secure the verifiable, infra services that will enable a Web3 that is competitive on a global scale. Its multichain (re)staking layer is nothing short of disruptive for this fast growing industry vertical. By allowing any token on any chain to be restaked through Nuff, the pool of available crypto-economic security grows significantly, which cuts the cost of capital for AVSs. This will also add utility to integrating tokens and enables yield opportunities for restakers across ecosystems. AVS protocols can choose customized asset compositions and tailor their security to the exact needs of their use case. They have to pay for security with their own token emission, which especially in the case of ETH, is expensive. Nuff enables more sustainable AVS economics and could spark an explosion of growth in the EigenLayer ecosystem. This is a game changer anon. A new era is dawning and it smells like waffles. Nuff said. 🧇
