Robotics data moat: Microagi at $100M run rate and no internet of actions
Quote308 words
Argues robot training data cannot be scraped, so data vendors capture value: Microagi reports a $100M run rate six months in, XDOF is raising at $1.2B and Skild passed $100M ARR. Caveats: self-reported run rate, and demand depends on VC-funded labs.
Key claims
Microagi $55M seed in July, $100M run rate six months after launch
XDOF in talks to raise at $1.2B
Skild crossed $100M ARR ten months after first deployment
Data is the moat in robotics for a reason that doesn’t exist in LLMs: there is no "internet of actions".
GPT & co got thirty years of free text to train on. A robot doesn't and every hour of training data has to be recorded by a human doing the task first.
That’s the whole Microagi business. Shift films people doing physical work in factories and sells the recordings as training data. $55M seed in July, the largest in German history, and a run rate of $100M six months after launch.
And this is not a one-off. @xdofai, another robot data vendor, is in talks to raise at $1.2B three months out of stealth.
Meanwhile the buyers have budgets now: @SkildAI, which builds robot brains and no robots, crossed $100M ARR ten months after its first deployment.
Why does this matter? Bc every serious lab needs the same input and none of them can scrape it from the web.
Two things to keep in mind tho:
- The number is self-reported and it’s an annualized run rate, not revenue in the bank. @microagi hasn’t said how much of it is recurring data contracts vs one-off deployment work, and data deals are lumpy by nature.
- The buyers are the labs, so this revenue is downstream of the same VC money that funds @Figure_robot and Skild. If humanoid funding cools, the data vendors will likely feel it first.
Still the clearest signal yet that the robotics value chain is sorting itself out and data sits near the top of it.
Bullish the pick and shovel plays here.

@a1research__ And crypto plays a role here too btw, and the below is a gud example:

Wow! Higgsfield AI is no longer the fastest-growing startup in the world. Microagi, a robotics data research startup, just hit $100M ARR in 6 months. The AI race is shifting from who builds the best models to who owns the most valuable data. Data is the real moat now. https:/
