Miden partner mainnet is live: nothing onchain to decrypt, three things to know

Thread411 words

Launch-day read of Miden's partner mainnet: the chain stores only 32-byte hashes, compliance doors for issuers and guardians, and the migrations and guardrails still ahead of public mainnet.

Key claims
Only a 32-byte hash goes onchain per account, nothing encrypted to harvest later
Under 3s proving on mobile, fees paid in USDCx
Hash function moves from Poseidon2 to a Blake3-based one before public mainnet

Miden mainnet is live (partner phase).

Programmable privacy by default, and imo the most quantum-paranoid design that has shipped so far.

Went through @bobbinth's launch piece.

Three things worth knowing:

01There's nothing onchain to decrypt

Most privacy chains put your data onchain in encrypted form. Miden only posts a 32-byte hash. Your actual account data stays on your device, backed up by your Guardian.

Why does that matter?

If an encryption scheme breaks in 10 years (quantum, AI, a leaked key), every encrypted ledger becomes readable in hindsight. A hash gives an attacker nothing to collect in the first place.

Add a core protocol that only relies on hash functions, plus ECDSA keys that never leave your device, and users can move to quantum-safe keys at their own pace instead of in a panic.

02Compliance is built in, with a few doors

  • You can prove one balance or one time window to someone, without opening up the rest of your account
  • Issuers can bake rules into their asset (viewing rights, freezes, blocklists)
  • Guardians can limit who they secure (e.g. one country, an age group, accredited investors). Every tx needs your keys plus their signature, but they can only pause you, never spend. Spending limits cap the damage if a key leaks (e.g. $1,000 a day), and you can always rotate them out
  • In extreme cases (think large hacks), a threshold of validators can decrypt specific txs

That's what a regulated issuer needs before shipping a private dollar. ZEC never needed any of that, it's just money.

03Today's chain is a rehearsal

Before public mainnet, which Bobbin puts "within a few months":

  • The hash function switches from Poseidon2 to a Blake3-based one, which means a migration
  • Fees are flat rn and get a proper resource-based model
  • Block proofs are still partial, so validators enforce security for now

The guardrails also stay on through both phases. Validators see your private inputs and keep threshold-encrypted tx details for emergencies. Bobbin is upfront about it: once the protocol is battle-tested and formally verified, they come off and users "seamlessly get Zcash-level privacy".

What you can already use today, all through Bread:

  • <3s proving on mobile
  • USDCx for fees
  • Bridges via Circle's xReserve, AggLayer, NEAR Intents and Epoch
  • An in-protocol DEX for simple swaps

The real test is public mainnet, and whether those guardrails ever come off.

Watching closely (but NFA ofc).
