Centralized rollup sequencers: risks and who is decentralizing them
Thread93 words
Most rollups run a centralized sequencer, which creates censorship, MEV and single point of failure risk. Saga and Radius build shared sequencing infrastructure, while Polygon zkEVM's sequencer is still centralized despite its Proof of Efficiency design.
Key claims
Polygon zkEVM's sequencer was still centralized at the time
Prover decentralization is a separate centralization risk for rollups
most #rollups use a centralized sequencer, which comes with censorship, MEV exploitation & single point of failure risk
decentralizing the sequencer is key to build robust, censorship resistant rollups
projects like @Sagaxyz__ & @radius_xyz are building core #modular infra
also, @0xPolygonLabs tackles sequencer decentralization through a novel Proof of Efficiency (PoE) consensus on L2

but currently, the sequencer in @0xPolygon's #zkEVM is still centralized as well. This will change in the future though

but sequencers are not the only centralization risk for rollups
