Skate: universal execution layer for stateless apps across chains
Quote669 words
Explains Skate's kernel and periphery architecture: app logic on the Nollie chain (OP stack) with per-chain periphery contracts, and intents settled by executors and pre-confirmed by an EigenLayer AVS. Argues single-deployment, VM-agnostic apps unify liquidity and improve UX.
Key claims
Kernel runs on Nollie Chain (OP stack) with periphery contracts on each chain
EigenLayer AVS pre-confirms intents, collusion leads to slashing of restaked ETH

@skate_chain is building infrastructure that enables apps to deploy across any chain (both EVM and non-EVM) through a universal app layer, while maintaining a single deployment and a unified application state.
It thereby allows builder to develop and deploy their applications once and tap into users on all chains simultaneously, overcoming a huge issue for builders in a multichain world.
Skate fully eliminates the need of repeatedly having to deploy on each chain separately, adjusting or even fully rewriting the code every time, and fragmenting app liquidity across execution layers.
VM-agnostic apps that run on all chains provide significant complexity abstraction for devs, unify liquidity in one place and massively improve overall UX.

Skate introduces a unique architecture inspired by the client-server model well established in Web2.
It divides the application into two distinct parts:
โค The kernel, which handles core logic
โค The periphery, responsible for user interactions
This structure allows for efficient resource management, security, and scalability across multiple chains.
At the heart of the system, the kernel is deployed on the Nollie Chain (currently in testnet), an EVM-based hub built on @Optimism's OP stack.
It manages the global state and core application logic through Solidity contracts.
Meanwhile, the periphery components handle user-specific interactions on various blockchain environments, each tailored to the execution semantics of its respective chain (such as Solidity for EVM, FunC for TON, and Rust for Solana).
These periphery contracts synchronize with the kernel to ensure consistent state transitions across chains.
Users interact with Skate by creating "intents," which are tasks that need to be executed on multiple chains.
These intents are processed by decentralized executors within @skate_chain's Intent Execution Network, who compete to settle them efficiently.
Executors work by interacting with the kernel contracts on Nollie to facilitate cross-chain transactions.
To ensure security and consistency, @skate_chain leverages an Actively Validated Service (AVS) built on @eigencloud for pre-confirmations.
The AVS validates intents before execution, guaranteeing that only valid tasks are processed, with economic security provided by @eigencloud operators and ultimately restakers.
Among the AVS operators, @skate_chain employs a Byzantine Fault Tolerant (BFT) consensus mechanism to ensure the security & integrity of the network.
In the (unlikely) event that AVS operators collude, their restaked $ETH would be slashed and used to compensate affected affected Skate users.
This mechanism allows these "insured" transactions to finalize on the AVS instantly, fully removing the often lengthy waiting periods that users potentially experience when interacting with other cross-chain messaging solutions.
Apps that deploy on @skate_chain, are hence accessible to users from anywhere (through Skate Gateway contracts) and entirely VM agnostic, while maintaining high security standards and real time interop.
While apps on Skate can take many forms, an intuitive example is an intent-based DEX, where @skate_chain streamlines the process of swapping assets across different chains.
As builders, we only maintain a single deployment of the DEX contract on @skate_chain, maintaining a unified liquidity pool.
Users on the other hand get to access their favourite DEX from anywhere, and can have their intents settled across any chain seamlessly, and under sufficiently minimized trust assumptions.

In short, @skate_chain is best described as a universal application layer for stateless apps.
It allows devs to deploy and maintain a single version of their smart contracts, giving builders the freedom to solely focus on building and refining their application logic, rather than having to deal with the complexities of cross-chain composability.
The unique design allows apps to tap into users across both EVM and non-EVM chains, unifies application liquidity in one place, improves UX and ensures both fast & secure cross-chain intent execution through its innovative insurance mechanism powered by @eigencloud.
