The era of EVM dominance is coming to an end. 2025 will be the year of altVMs, which are set to break into mass adoption this cycle with @Aptos leading the charge on the MoveVM front. My thesis on the @Aptos ecosystem. ↓ t.co/SF1AalCfnF My thesis for @Aptos revolves around 6 core pillars: ➊ The Move Language ➋ High-Performance Execution ➌ Tokenization brings RWAs on-chain ➍ Enterprise Adoption ➎ AI/ML Use Cases ➏ Ecosystem Hyper-Growth Let me explain. ↓ ➊ The Move Language Move is a programming language purpose-built for safe and flexible smart contract development. It is statically and strongly typed, meaning that variable types are determined at compilation, not runtime. This results in fewer opportunities for type confusion, which can introduce vulnerabilities in contract code, while Move's bytecode verifier ensures secure transactions by preventing unauthorized resource modifications. Move also supports formal verification, a method of mathematically proving that a system, such as a computer program or hardware design, behaves as intended. This is accomplished by constructing a formal model of the system, and then using mathematical reasoning to prove that the model satisfies certain properties. Formal verification can be used to ensure that a system is free from certain types of bugs and errors, and can provide a high degree of confidence that the system will behave correctly in all possible scenarios. In the case of Move, this happens through a Move Prover, which is a tool that takes a Move program and a set of properties as input, and then uses mathematical reasoning to prove that the program satisfies those properties. The Move Prover can be used to check the properties of a Move program, such as ensuring that the program does not violate any security or correctness properties. Finally, comprehensive tooling, including IDE plugins, linters, and testers, streamlines dev productivity at all levels. This unique feature set makes Move-based execution environments like @Aptos' MoveVM highly secure, fault tolerant and very developer-friendly places for developers to build their applications. Especially in the context of enterprise applications, highly financialized use cases or stuff that relates to AI and/or sensitive data, these features are absolutely essential and ultimately put chains like @Aptos in a unique position to capture market share. ➋ High-Performance Execution @Aptos is a L1 that runs a Move-based virtual machine which combines: ➤ Language-level Security: All the above mentioned Move features. ➤ Parallel Execution: @Aptos uses BlockSTM for parallel transaction execution, increasing throughput compared to EVM’s sequential processing, which is ideal for high-performance apps. ➤ Gas Efficiency: MoveVM is more gas-efficient than EVM, reducing costs for high-throughput and low-margin applications. ➤ Fast Finality & Low Latency: @Aptos offers near-instant finality, providing a great base for real-time apps like payments & trading. ➤ Granular State Management & Error Handling: Move uses type-safe structs, improving safety and predictability in cross-contract interactions. The impressive performance is not just promises of a distant future, but has been previously proven on mainnet. In August for example, the popular game @taposcat pushed @Aptos to process >533M txs in just 72 hours, averaging > 5000 TPS and a peak of 13,000 TPS! In the meantime, weekly TPS stands at around 45 right now with a total of >20M transactions processed in the current week already, putting it well ahead of many well established L2 ecosystems such as @Optimism mainnet, @arbitrum One and other chains. The accelerating on-chain activity is also supported by a quickly growing user base which amounts to >26M unique active users with 2M active this week alone. What is really impressive, is also the speed at which the user numbers are currently growing with 1.3M new users this week alone, and a week-on-week increase of >33% in active users recorden on-chain. This is clear evidence to the high-performance capabilities of the @Aptos blockchain, which is the ideal base layer for mass adoption ready applications with millions of users. The massive execution power is also key for financial applications at scale and within the AI/ML space. More on that in the next section(s). ➌ Tokenization brings RWAs on-chain @Aptos is secure and fast. That's why many institutions are already choosing @Aptos to tokenize their fund products. The most recent example is @FTI_US, which recently announced that it is expanding its onchain US Govt Money Market Fund $FOBXX to @Aptos. More about this billion $$$ narrative in my post below. ↓ x.com/zerokn0wledge_/status/1842172218245075414 ➍ Enterprise Adoption The high-performance base layer that @Aptos provides, makes it a highly interesting choice for any enterprise use case. By acquiring @hashpalette, Aptos has taken another major step towards onboarding enterprises in its ecosystem, and has put itself in a very strong position in the Asian market. More details in my post below. ↓ x.com/zerokn0wledge_/status/1842264031119184309 ➎ AI/ML Use Cases @Aptos is a high-speed blockchain with parallel execution, powered by Move that provides the ideal base layer for AI use cases. Move is a statically, strongly typed and formally verified programming language, specifically designed for blockchain development. What that means is that variable types are determined at compilation, not runtime, leaving fewer opportunities for type confusion, which can introduce vulnerabilities in contract code when it's being run. Formal verification on the other hand refers to mathematically proving that a software program satisfies a formal specification of its behaviour. In short, Move is purpose-built for secure app development. It is ideal for complex use cases with high security requirements (e.g. AI/ML). A throughput capacity of 1000s of TPS and consistently low, sub-cent transaction fees, powered by a high-performance consensus algorithm and parallel execution, @Aptos also allows for an unmatched execution speed and user experience. The high speed and low cost is another key requirement of agent-centric economies, which ultimately are dependent on the efficiency of the underlying, economic plumbing. This plumbing is the blockchain on top of which the on-chain agents operate and where they control funds that they can use to acquire other resources and transact with each other. Partnerships with @ionet, a decentralized GPU aggregation layer and @nillion, a privacy-preserving MPC network, further strengthen @Aptos' positioning to support these use cases, putting the chain among the leaders to accommodate AI use cases at scale. For @Aptos as an ecosystem as a whole, this could be huge. Fully automated on-chain interactions through autonomous AI agents are the endgame of crypto UX. ➏ Ecosystem Hyper-Growth Okay, RWAs, enterprise adoption and AI are cool. What's even cooler though, is that the @Aptos ecosystem doesn't end there. The @Aptos ecosystem features >250 teams building across a variety of verticals, stretching from NFTs to DeFi or GameFi. The DeFi ecosystem on @Aptos has roughly $1B in TVL according to @DefiLlama and has seen significant growth thoughout the past month. The leading apps in terms of TVL are: ➊ @AriesMarkets (Lending) ➋ @AmnisFinance (Liquid Staking) ➌ @ThalaLabs (DeFi Hub) ➍ @TruFinProtocol (Liquid Staking) ➎ @CellanaFinance (DEXes) ➏ @Meso_Finance (Lending) ➐ @EchelonMarket (Lending) ➑ LiquidSwap by @PontemNetwork (DEX) ➒ @PancakeSwap (DEX) ➓ @AptinLabs (Lending) What is unique about the @Aptos ecosystem, is also how many native apps are exclusively building on Aptos. Notable applications across other verticals (or not in the top 10 per TVL) include: ➤ @Merkle_Trade (Perps) ➤ @PlayEvergreen_ (GameFi) ➤ @myco_io (Video streaming) ➤ @KGeN (GameFi) ➤ @Castileofficial (GameFi) ➤ @growfitter (loyalty token rewards) ➤ @VibrantXFinance (DeFi) ➤ +++ For a more comprehensive overview, check out the visual below. The @Aptos ecosystem has SIZE and it is in hyper-growth. ➐ Conclusion The limitations of the EVM have previously rendered many use cases hard or even impossible to realize on-chain. Additionally, security concerns and a subpar developer experience (compared to Web2) has slowed down the adoption of blockchain-based technologies. The Move language, deliberately designed for blockchain development and standing out with its built-in security features, could be a paradigm shift here. @Aptos' high-performance MoveVM ensures enormous throughput capabilities and consistently low transaction cost, which enables novel use cases and improves the performance of applications that are already established on-chain. The @Aptos blockchain is uniquely able to support thousands of TPS and has already processed north of 1.7B transactions with ecosystem growth noticably ramping up. Institutional adoption is on the rise and both the stablecoin supply as well as the amount of tokenized RWAs and traditional financial products is are growing quickly. All of this makes for an explosive mix and definitely puts the @Aptos ecosystem on an interesting trajectory for the months to come. NFA but DYOR anon.
