Aztec explained: zk-zk rollup architecture and the CCA token sale
Quote522 words
Breaks down Aztec's privacy-native zk-zk rollup (PXE plus AVM, Protogalaxy folding, Goblin Plonk, client-side proving in Noir) and the Uniswap-co-built continuous clearing auction with a $350M FDV floor.
Key claims
Rollup circuit aggregates 128 proofs
Sale starts at a $350M FDV floor, 15% of tokens sold (corrected from 25%)
Auction ends Dec 6
It's ZK season.
It's privacy season.
It's ICO season.
Meanwhile, one of the biggest launches of the cycle is about to bring those three narratives together in a token sale that will set new standards, and tech that ushers in a new paradigm of private (and with that institutional) DeFi.
Sounds intriguing?
It is. But let me explain:
@aztecnetwork is NOT just another zkEVM with privacy bolted on. They architected a privacy-native L2 from the ground up, where confidential execution is enshrined into the execution layer.
How does it work?
➤ Aztec brings to market a zk-zk rollup (first ever btw) with a unique, hybrid execution model that combines a PXE (Private Execution Environment) and a network-level AVM (Aztec VM).
➤ UTXO-based private state composing with merkle public state allows cross-boundary calls, enabling seamless composability across the two environments that "private" zkEVMs structurally can't achieve.
➤ Dual-circuit SNARK architecture, where thanks to use of Protogalaxy folding scheme + Goblin Plonk (ZK proving system), makes proving on consumer hardware locally via Noir (their domain-specific ZK programming language) possible.
➤ The rollup circuit then aggregates 128 proofs using a PLONK-based proof system (hyper-efficient SNARK scheme that Aztec co-founder @Zac_Aztec literally invented).
➤ Ethereum as security/trust layer then only verifies a succinct, recursive proof of execution, while nodes never touch raw tx data because client-side proving happens before network submission.
➤ This unique architecture enables private DeFi use cases like institutional dark pools, private tx protocols, and more generally confidential execution that doesn't sacrifice composability within one block.
➤ It also allows devs to deploy "private micro-rollups" with unlimited client-side compute (only proof submitted onchain, great for computationally expensive use cases).
So TL;DR: the tech is absolutely top tier.
But let's talk about the $AZTEC token and the launch mechanics.
As airdrop season seems to be coming to an end, many projects increasingly opt for (centralized) launchpads, gate-kept distribution models with often unfair selection criteria that favor a small, exclusive circle of insiders and KOLs.
Aztec is about to change that, and aims to set a new standard for token launches, that also empowers YOU:
➤ The sale is leveraging a novel CCA (continuous clearing auction) mechanism, co-built with @Uniswap. Bids settle against deterministic supply curve every block at uniform clearing price.
➤ No fancy batch auction games, no gas wars, no MEV extraction and a sale design that breaks with established distribution patterns:
➤ Anyone who passes the privacy-preserving compliance check (via their own zkPassport) can participate (incl. you).
➤ 25% of all tokens sold, putting huge stake into community's hands on day 1, with sale starting at a $350M FDV floor (a huge discount compared to recent funding rounds).
Key dates:
- Contributors (300k+ whitelisted): Bidding is LIVE NOW (Nov 13).
- Contributor Clearing: Begins Dec 1.
- Public Sale (Bidding & Clearing): Begins Dec 2.
- Auction Ends: Dec 6.
Highly recommend to DYOR on this one anon.
EDIT: Correcting my typo on total % sold which is 15% not 25%
