The big privacy problem in DeFi isn’t “can we hide links?” It’s “can we hide links without creating a black box that’s unusable for legitimate users and unacceptable for integrators?”
@0xbowio’s approach is basically: privacy pools + a compliance layer that tries to prevent illicit funds from being mixed in the first place.
At a high level, the suite includes:
➤ Privacy Pools with private transfers designed to avoid “your funds got mixed with bad funds” scenarios by controlling which deposits are eligible.
➤ Association Set Provider (ASP) which is basically a monitoring/vetting component that evaluates deposits and decides whether they can be added to an approved set.
➤ Proof of Association (Tornado Cash PoA) - a mechanism aimed at letting users prove their withdrawal address isn’t linked to illicit activity without doxxing identity details.
This is a different framing from classic mixers: the goal isn’t maximal anonymity at any cost, it’s privacy with an explicit attempt at transaction legitimacy.
0xbow recently also announced a $3.5M seed round, with the pitch centered on scaling this “compliant privacy” model.
