Monad report takeaways: EVM compatible parallel execution and MonadBFT
Thread219 words
Summarizes a Monad report: bytecode-level EVM equivalence, optimistic parallel execution, MonadBFT with deferred execution and carriage cost spam protection. Doubts most alt-L1s can compete with Ethereum L2/L3s, with Monad an exception.
Key claims
Optimistic execution enables scalability but risks incorrect execution
Carriage cost and reserve balances may need parameter research
Hard for any alt-L1 to compete with Ethereum's L2/L3 ecosystem

Great reminder why Monad is so interesting! 馃憖
TLDR 馃憞
馃殌 The combination of EVM-compatibility and high performance can be very interesting.
馃殌 Parallel execution can enable novel use cases, previously not feasible in EVM environments.
馃殌 Also, bytecode-level EVM equivalence and Ethereum RPC + tooling compatibility means no friction to the largest web3 dev pool EVM/Solidity.
馃殌 In the context of its parallelized execution engine, Monad uses optimistic execution, which means the network can start executing transactions before earlier transactions in the block have completed. Enables high scalability but comes with the risk of incorrect execution.
馃殌 MonadBFT with block propagation through hashes and decoupling execution and consensus with deferred execution, basically parallelizing execution and consensus to boost efficiency is very innovative.
馃殌 To prevent spam attacks & counter DDoS attacks Monad uses carriage cost and reserve balances. However, this might be an area where some research is still needed to figure out the ideal parameters to balance UX and security.
Overall, some really innovative tech here. Think it will generally be very hard for any alt-L1 to compete with Ethereum's L2/L3 ecosystem. But Monad is definitely one of the few I will be watching.
