TEEs explained: isolated compute for privacy-preserving AI
Post110 words
Explains Trusted Execution Environments as isolated CPU zones shielding computation from the host OS, already deployed in major clouds and extending to GPUs like NVIDIA's H100, which is crucial for privacy-preserving AI and utility agents.
Key claims
NVIDIA H100 introduced TEE capabilities for AI workloads
WTF are TEEs?
Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) create isolated secure zones where sensitive computations are shielded from external access, including protection from the host operating system itself.
More specifically, it's a special area in modern CPUs (Intel SGX). The code lives inside of it, and the TEE ultimately acts as a blackbox: nobody except the code can access data.
TEEs are already widely deployed in major cloud platforms and are expanding to GPU implementations, e.g. with NVIDIA's H100 introducing TEE capabilities specifically designed for AI workloads.
Crucial infrastructure for privacy-preserving AI use cases, and unlocking true utility agents that potentially deal with sensitive data, and/or control significant value.
