Pearl thesis update: Coinbase roadmap listing, new ATH and the io:PRL perp
Quote534 words
PRL went from $594M to ~$815M mcap in four days after a Coinbase roadmap listing, and io:PRL OI on Entropy tripled to $9.3M. The bull case still lacks proof of paid demand through mining and faces ~1M new PRL a day.
Key claims
PRL ATH $2.46, mcap $594M to ~$815M in four days
io:PRL OI $3.05M to $9.3M, cap raised from $5M to 15M
DeepSeek V4.1 Flash $0.05 in / $0.30 out on Pearl vs $0.30 / $1.20 on Together AI
The "Bitcoin of the AI age" thesis is getting tested faster than I expected.
Four days ago $PEARL traded on two thin CEX books and sat 19% below ATH. Since then: Coinbase added it to the listing roadmap, spot printed a new ATH at $2.46, mcap went from $594M to ~$815M, and Entropy had to raise the io:PRL OI cap twice to keep up.
Longed it in the dip around 1.7 via @entropyIO. Up ~40% on price since, +120% on margin at 3x. But the price is the least interesting part.
Why the thesis got stronger?
- The whole bull case rests on one idea: GPU matmuls can secure a chain and serve inference at the same time, so the security budget stops being wasted hashes. That part was never the problem. The problem was distribution and demand.
- Coinbase roadmap (from the 19th of Oct, together with AXIS and STABLE) attacks the distribution half. PRL goes from exotic ticker on SafeTrade / BigONE / Ourbit to a name the biggest US venue has publicly committed to review.
- @prlnet cut inference prices again. DeepSeek V4.1 Flash now runs at $0.05 in / $0.30 out on their own API vs $0.30 / $1.20 on Together AI. The network is selling compute cheaper than one of the largest open-model providers, bc miners are paid in block rewards anyway.
What the thesis still needs?
- Proof that paid demand runs through the mining. Pearl still publishes zero numbers on how much of the hashrate serves paid workloads. Cheaper pricing is not the same as paying customers.
- Issuance: ~1M new PRL a day, now against an ~$815M float. Until paid demand shows up, PRL trades like a mining coin and the market has to absorb that supply every single day.
- Depth: Three small CEX books and a roadmap entry are still not a liquid market. Which is where Entropy comes in.
The Entropy angle?
Entropy listed io:PRL on Hyperliquid while spot still only trades on three small CEXs, so the perp became the deepest PRL market before any major exchange had one.
In four days io:PRL went from $3.05M to $9.3M OI (3x) and from $2.05M to $8.4M daily volume (4x). Entropy lifted the OI cap from $5M to 10M to 15M bc demand kept hitting it, and 62% of the new cap is already filled.
Two dynamics to keep in mind if you trade it there:
- The oracle is still 90% SafeTrade until a properly liquid venue lists PRL. A Coinbase listing is exactly that trigger, and once it goes live Entropy migrates io:PRL to the standard Hyperliquid feed.
- The carry is real. Longs paid ~0.7 to 0.8% a day all week. That adds up. Still fine for a thesis trade tho imo.
Still long btw. The gap between "the math works" and "someone pays for the compute" is still the discount still imo, and the market now too seems to be pricing it closing faster than it did last week.
NFA ofc tho. Always DYOR.
